UK Recall scheme announced
Some of you may have heard about a recent Whirlpool tumble-dryer safety crisis.
A new scheme, UK Recall, has just been announced which can give you an extra layer of reassurance if an appliance you have purchased has been recalled. There is already one scheme in place – run by the white goods trade association AMDEA. There are links to this Register My Appliance scheme on the brand pages of our site.
Consumers who register their appliance on the UK Recall website will receive an automatic alert if the manufacturer issues a recall or safety notice.
Brands including Whirlpool, Hotpoint, Indesit, LG, Miele , Samsung and Smeg have all signed up to the scheme. For a full list of brands, please see the UK Recall website.
“By registering with UK Recall, consumers will be immediately alerted if the manufacturer of the individual appliances you register issues a recall or safety notice. We will also ensure that you are registered on the manufacturer’s database.”
We think it’s a bit confusing to have two schemes but if you are at all concerned, we suggest you register your appliance on both – that way you should be sure of getting any alerts that are issued.
